Local Fall Festivities

All of the leaves are turning brilliant shades of red, brown and yellow. The pumpkin patches are opening up and everyone is planning for their Halloween costumes and parties. That’s right, fall is in the air! As always there’s a wide range of fun local activities to take in. But with so many things to do, it’s easy to let many opportunities pass you by without even hearing about them. Worry not, fellow fall enthusiast, Bellingham Dental Group is here to help guide your festive autumn plans.

First on the list is the local Pumpkin Patch. After all, what sort of fall would it be without pumpkins? Pumpkins for making pumpkin pie, roasting pumpkin seeds and, of course, carving the perfect Jack-o-lantern for Halloween! Sure, you could always go to your local grocery store and pick up your pumpkin that way, but nothing quite compares to heading out into the pumpkin patch yourself and finding your very own pumpkin. Our favorite local pumpkin patch is Bellewood Acres, located just north of Bellingham on the Guide Meridian. Stroll through the farm with your family or everybody jump aboard the “Apple Bin Express” for a train ride through the apple orchard and on to the pumpkin patch. Bellewood Acres also offers a majestic view of Mount Baker in the background, great capturing that perfect family photo. Don’t forget to sip some cider!

Next on our list of fun fall activities is Foster’s Corn Maze. Located in Arlington, Foster’s pumpkin patch and corn maze offers lots of fun family activities. This year’s corn maze theme is The Wizard of Oz. “The Wicked Witch has jumbled up the Yellow Brick Road! Can you help Dorothy and her friends find their way to the Emerald City?” Foster’s is open daily from 9am – 5pm with free admission for all children age 3 and under. Foster’s also offers an array of attractions like their pumpkin cannon blaster, pumpkin slingshot and cow barrel train rides for the kiddies.

For all you older kids out there looking for a good scare this fall, be sure to check out the Scream Fair Haunted House located at the Northwest Washington Fairgrounds in Lynden. Open every Friday and Saturday during the month of October, this haunted house experience promises to put the fear in any brave soul willing to enter. Besides, what would Halloween be without a little spook in your step?

These are just a few of our favorite local fall / Halloween attractions, but there are far more out there to discover. Be sure to check out some of these other local favorites.
